
BORAIS Petroleum
Investment Co. started in 1984 involving in the co-ordination of directional
well planning, surveying and directional services for Gulf of Suez Petroleum
Company (GUPCO)
In 1987 Borais became
one of the vendors on the approved list of Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation
(EGPC) as a directional drilling services company.
In 1988 Borais started
career development plan for the Egyptian post-graduate Engineers by training
them to be Directional Drillers in order to comply with company long term
growth.
In 1989 Borais started
to work on slot recovery and invented the Deflecting Conductor Sleeve
"DCS tool which has been proven a valuable system for the economical
salvaging of previously used slots at the offshore platforms, avoiding costly
delays due to weather and the assistance of divers. Up to date Borais has
run several DCS tools in the Gulf of Suez for major joint venture oil companies
with 100% success.
In 1989 Borais initiated
a computer services group to develop a state of the art directional drilling
program. Currently Borais is providing the customers with state of art recaps,
current directional data and well plans.
In 1989 Borais and
Computalog Canada signed a contract authorizing Computalog to provide Borais
with Mud Motors, Surveying Equipment, and MWD. Computalog steerable Mud motors,
directional drilling tools and survey equipment supplies were ceased in 2000
at the moment PRECISION purchased Computalog.
In 1991 Borais started
a research and development department to develop and invent new tools trying
to minimize drilling and production costs by developing / inventing new techniques
/ tools.
In 1992 Borais have
designed and drilled first hook type well in Egypt.
In 1992 Borais created
and developed the Borais Dynamic Surge Device (DSD). The Surge Device is a
hydraulically operated sub normally installed below the production packer
on the bottom of the single completion string. It is used as a blanking plug
to set the Packer, test tubing and unload the well automatically under balance
without any need to the risky wire line operations. Hence, it reduces time
and cost. The "DSD" has been successfully run more than 800 times
with considerable time and money savings.
In 1992 Borais created
and developed Borais Lifting Platform (L.P) as hydraulically operated lift
platform to provide additional storage area and to facilitate the movement
of heavy equipment while working on the helideck. Borais Lifting Platform
L.P is professionally used at most of Gulf of Suez platforms
In 1992 Borais created
and developed the Borais Lifting Platform (Borais'LP) this hydraulically operated
lift provides for the storage and movement of heavy equipment to and from
a work position on the platforms helideck, the Borais lifting Platform
is currently in use and has surpassed it's expectations.
In 1992 Borais was
approved as a special free zone company under the name of Borais Petroleum
Investment Company, at the Free Zone area in Ras Gharib.
In 1993 Borais Petroleum
Investment Company started to co-operate with Russian Turbo drilling Group
and developed steerable turbines.
In 1995 GUPCO awarded
BORAIS to drill the forth horizontal well within GUPCO operations. This was
the first 8 ½ medium radius horizontal well in Egypt.
In 1997 Borais had
performed turbo-drilling campaign in Abu Dhabi for ADMA-OPCO and drilled 2
horizontal wells to ZADCO. It was the first time to drill outside Egypt, therefore
Borais considered it as step forword to extend its operations to cover the
Middle East Area.
In 2002, Borais
has extended its operations internationally by opening a new branch in Libya.
Up to date Borais
have drilled more than 7,200,000 directional horizontal feet along Egypt and
the Middle East Area.
